Crabs In The Classroom

Hermit crabs make fun and interesting pets for the classroom. Once the cage is set up properly they are easy to care for.

They do not transmit any diseases and are quiet. Once you learn how to hold them properly, getting pinched is a rare occasion. They can help children understand concepts like nocturnal, exoskeleton, compound vision, cold blooded, arthropod, decapod and omnivore.

In Florida they represent an important part of our southern ecosystem. Children in other states may not even know they exist. They can help children appreciate that there is just as much beauty in the "cold, prickly's" as most of them feel for the "warm, fuzzy's".

We offer classroom presentations in the Central Florida area. We bring along crabs of all sizes, from dime size to softball size. We have compound eye glasses, bits of shed exoskeleton, baby pictures and microscope slides, many different activities depending on the age group. Probably the most fun for everyone is a chance to hand feed one of our jumbo crabs baby food.

If you would like further information please contact us, regardless of your location we are here to help.
